Political cartoon analysis
VietnamIzation political cartoonHere we have a political cartoon depicting the flaws behind the U.S. led policy of Vietnamization. With little training, soldiers were sent into Vietnam to fend for themselves for one year only before a new wave of troops was sent in. The crows in this cartoon represent the inexperience of the U.S. troops in comparison to the well trained Vietnamese fights make them easy pickings in combat, similar to how crows hunt down the easy prey, which is often times already dead. This also shows the dwindling aid sent to Vietnam as with less people to fight off the Vietcong threat, more and more Americans died trying to follow U.S. beliefs in containment of communism which meant still sending troops, yet the Vietcong began winning since less troops were sent under this policy of Vietnamization. Less troops with less training in the long run meant more American deaths until America decided to outright pull out of Vietnam and leave South Vietnam to fend for itself.

Troop Conditions Political cartoon
While the United States had many military campaigns in different countries in the 1970s, this political cartoon describes the significance and struggles of the troops of the Vietnam War in comparison to the other campaigns of the time such as the Cambodia Campaign beginning in 1970. The Vietnam War held tough conditions out for troops filled with massive rainfall and damp temperatures the the Vietnamese were used to. As for American soldiers however, it was like a whole new battlefield completely foreign and with such tough conditions, this cartoon captures the essence of the jungle setting with large areas of water which American soldiers often had to travel through. Even if they did as they were told, American inexperience with the conditions provided burdened the soldiers greatly, represented by the largest cargo carried on the soldier's back being labeled as Vietnam.
